Explanation.

My name is Andrue Coombes, and I live in the State of Massachusetts. There are 298 towns and 53 cities in Massachusetts. It's my goal to visit each and every one of these places, take a picture of myself with the "Entering ___" sign, and interact with both the social and physical geography of the area. In this blog, I will write a story about my visit to each place, and things I did there, as well as post pictures and other things of interest. Hopefully I will complete this within the next few years, and everyone can notice how beautiful things can be in their own state if they just get out of and experience them! Good luck on all of your travels!

CHELMSFORD!

Chelmsford is a town directly next to the city where I go to school, in Lowell. Chelmsford has the Walmart, and other good shops in the Drum Hill Plaza, but Chelmsford is home to something rather mysterious, The UMass Lowell West Campus. This is an abandoned campus that used to belong to Umass Lowell. I haven't been able to find any information regarding it, or any resources to investigate. It's a bit of a local legend among students here, as it looks exactly like the set of a terrifying horror movie. The buildings are beautifully built, yet they are overgrown with vines and plants, and the grounds have fallen into ruin. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

  1. WOOO CHELMSFORD!
    or actually... WOOO NORTH CHELMSFORD!

The front building at west campus is still being used and they WILL call the cops on you if they see you there. Most of the buildings are boarded up beyond break-in but a month ago I went and Gould Hall had a loose window around the back...

they're pretty neat inside too. If you want to check it out I'd recommend going on a sunday or something and parking at the glenview...

  2. Yeah! Thanks for the first comment! I like this sort of thing. And we went on a weekday afternoon, and there were no cops. We got down and the whole place gave me the creepiest vibes. I think that they boarded it up just for safety reasons. I went to Read Hall and the boards on the porch were like, so brittle they were about to break. I can't imagine how safe they are haha. And is there anything else awesome to do in Chelmsford that I should check out??

  3. They aren't really that bad safety-wise. Read and Gould hall have pretty stable floors. I don't think they're that old after all....

I can't really think of many things to do... there is a pretty sweet bike path though in the center(bruce freeman rail trail) and Veneto's(?) in Vinal Square has great pizza. BUT YEAH WOOOOOO CHELMSFORD!

  4. West Campus used to be where the UML College of Education was. When they moved them into O'Leary (I think) they basically just left most of West to rot. It's definitely one of the creepiest places in the area though... Imagine going there on Halloween night!
